Owner & Managing Director
Born in Birmingham and educated at Solihull School, and Jesus College, Cambridge, where Philip studied Mechanical Sciences.
He qualified Charted Accountant in 1976 whilst working for Cooper Brothers (now Price Waterhouse Coopers) and took an MBA at Cranfield University in 1987.
Always fascinated by electronics, he qualified for an amateur radio licence at the age of 14. His electronic industry career began with AB Electronics (now part of TT Electronics) in 1982 as divisional financial controller. Together with his business partner, Kevin Forder they bought out Newbury Electronics from AB’s in 1987. Within 5 years, they transformed the simple bare PCB manufacturing business into an integrated electronic design and build organisation.
In 2013 Kevin retired and Philip became 100% owner and Managing Director of Newbury Electronics Ltd.
Development of the business continues and it now operates from 3 sites, one each for bare PCB fabrication (including PCB Train), contract electronic manufacturing, and electronic design (Newbury Innovations).
Philip's lifetime hobby has been competitive sailing dinghy racing. He has half blues for sailing from Cambridge University and has had success at national level in Laser 1, Merlin-rocket, Scorpion, Fireball, RS 400, RS800 and Solo. Philip currently campaigns a Salcombe Yawl.
